FAQs
Common questions about our services and getting started.

Getting Started
A few things to know before your visit.
Availability varies by provider and service. Many new clients are connected with a provider within about a week, and our team can help identify current openings based on your needs and preferences.
Your first appointment is a chance to talk about what brings you in, share any relevant history, and explore what feels most important to you right now. Together, you and your provider can begin identifying goals and discussing possible next steps.
Private-pay rates vary by provider and service. Contact our office for current fees and available options.
We work with many insurance plans. Our team can help verify your benefits, explain anticipated costs, and answer questions about coverage before your first appointment.
Often, yes. HSA and FSA funds can frequently be used for eligible mental health services. We recommend checking with your plan administrator for specific details.
Choosing a therapist
A range of specialties and approaches.
You may be drawn to a therapist's experience, approach, areas of expertise, or simply the way they describe their work. Often, paying attention to what resonates with you can be a helpful place to start. If you'd like support, our intake team can help you explore options and identify providers who may be a good fit.
Yes. Our providers offer a range of specialties and approaches, including EMDR, trauma-informed care, somatic therapies, mindfulness-based practices, and other evidence-based treatments. We can help connect you with a provider whose experience aligns with your goals.
Yes. Finding the right therapeutic relationship matters. If something doesn't feel like the right fit, we can help you explore other options within our practice.
Healthwise provides outpatient behavioral health services and is not a crisis response center. If you're experiencing a mental health emergency or feel unable to keep yourself safe, call 911, go to the nearest emergency room, or call or text 988 for immediate support.
Therapy
Therapy for every stage of life.
No. People seek therapy for many reasons, including stress, relationships, life transitions, personal growth, or simply wanting space to better understand themselves and their experiences.
Many people begin with weekly or every-other-week appointments, though frequency varies based on individual needs and goals. There is no set timeline for therapy. Some people seek support around a specific concern, while others choose longer-term work. The process is guided by your goals and what feels helpful to you.
Progress looks different for everyone. You may notice greater self-awareness, stronger coping skills, healthier relationships, increased confidence, or a growing ability to respond to life's challenges in ways that feel more aligned with who you are and what matters to you.
Therapy and medication
Support that can work together.
Yes. Some people choose therapy, some choose medication management, and others find that a combination of services best supports their goals and overall well-being.
Therapy provides a space to better understand experiences, explore patterns, build skills, and support emotional well-being. Medication management focuses on evaluating symptoms, discussing treatment options, and prescribing and monitoring medications when appropriate.
A psychiatric provider can help you better understand your symptoms, explore available options, and decide whether medication may be a helpful part of your overall care.
Telehealth
Care across Minnesota.
Yes. Many providers offer secure telehealth appointments, allowing you to access care from a private location anywhere in Minnesota.
Often, yes. Depending on your provider and circumstances, you may be able to utilize both in-person and telehealth appointments.

A clearer picture.
Testing may be helpful if you're looking for diagnostic clarification, treatment recommendations, accommodations, or a deeper understanding of specific concerns.
We offer a variety of psychological testing and assessment services. Available evaluations vary based on age, needs, and provider specialty.
Testing can help clarify diagnoses, identify strengths and challenges, provide recommendations, and support informed decisions about next steps.
Mind Body Studio
Classes and workshops open to the community.
Yes. Many workshops, classes, and yoga offerings are open to both Healthwise clients and members of the community.
Offerings vary throughout the year and may include yoga, mindfulness, wellness education, stress management, personal growth, and other mind-body focused programs.
